About BookDeck

BookDeck is a book discovery app that helps you find your next great read. Instead of endless lists, BookDeck uses your reading taste to suggest one book at a time.

How It Works

As you swipe, BookDeck learns your taste profile—what genres, themes, and styles resonate with you.

It then scores books based on the features you like.

Found something interesting? Save it to Your Deck for later, or jump straight to Bookshop.org to get a copy.

What It's Not

I've never intended for BookDeck to be a replacement for StoryGraph, Goodreads, or other reading platforms. We're focused on the specific problem of discovery, and discovering in a fun way.

Our Data Sources

BookDeck sources book data from trusted, public sources:

  • OpenLibrary — comprehensive book metadata
  • Google Books — book details and cover images
  • Bookshop.org — bestseller lists and affiliate links

This combination gives us rich, up-to-date information about millions of books.

Built independently

BookDeck is a passion project built by me, Stuart Frost, a software engineer and keen reader. It started as a personal tool to solve a problem: finding good books in a sea of recommendations.

FAQs

Is there an Android/iOS app?

No, however you can add BookDeck to your home screen for an app-like experience.

  • On iOS, open Safari, tap the share icon, and select "Add to Home Screen".
  • On Android, open Chrome, tap the menu icon, and select "Add to Home Screen".

Does it use AI?

No. I'm not a fan of slapping "AI-powered" onto things that don't really need it. BookDeck's uses traditional recommendation techniques based on your swipe history, and the features of the books you interact with.
